Background
Hello, my name is I’m Mark Garrett and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) in Maryland and Washington, DC. I am passionate about helping people—especially adults—work through suffering and pain to experience their own personal breakthroughs.
I spent nearly 20 years as a pastor, where I enjoyed pastoral counseling with individuals, couples, parents, and families. It was serving in this role that I developed the passion and joy of walking with people through the stages of life. I now bring this same passion and experience into the therapy session as a trauma-informed clinical therapist.
I believe in forming a strong therapeutic relationship with clients – based upon mutual respect, where clients can feel heard, understood, and encouraged for change. I have experience working with clients in the following areas: Anxiety, mood and personality disorders, anger management, attachment disorders, addictions, overcoming spiritual abuse, and spiritually interested individuals, addressing trauma, self-harm, and suicide ideation. I believe that people are able to take control of their own lives and find hope for their future through the active participation, gaining of skills, and healing found in the treatment models I have been trained in.
The treatment models that I offer include: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Change Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Gottman Couples’ Therapy.
I earned a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 2004 and a Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland in 2022.
I am married with two adult children and enjoy the outdoors, woodworking, and reading a good book.
